Die amerikanische Heavy-Metal-Band Metallica gründete sich 1981 in Los Angeles, als James Hetfield auf eine Zeitungsanzeige von Lars Ulrich antwortete. Ihr drittes Album, Master of Puppets, gilt als eines der einflussreichsten und härtesten Thrash-Metal-Alben aller Zeiten, und ihr Song Enter Sandman erfreut sich ebenso großer Beliebtheit. Metallica gewann neun Grammys und den MTV Icon Award, hat eine eigene Version des Guitar-Hero-Spiels und wurde 2009 in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen.
